When landing a plane on a highway, ditch your drugs before talking to police

A small plane carrying an Oceanside, California, man back home from Mesa, Arizona, was forced to make an emergency landing on a Los Angeles highway recently, but that turned out to be the least of his problems.

After talking to police, 36-year-old Troy Othneil Smith allegedly removed a package from the backpack he was carrying and tossed it into the bushes when he thought they weren’t looking, according to the Times of San Diego.

However, the cops did notice and retrieved the package, the contents of which tested positive for cocaine.

Smith, who was already the target of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and U.S. Postal Service for allegedly shipping drugs in the mail from Oceanside to various U.S. locations, was arrested, along with the pilot.
