The Community Affairs meeting of The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce this morning featured Kate Franco. She is Google’s head of data center public affairs for a region that stretches from The Dalles to Oklahoma. Her talk stressed the contributions Google has made to Oregon in the nearly 20 years since they announced their first ever data center built from scratch here in The Dalles, and how the company buys green energy credits to offset is energy consumption. She also said construction is nearing completion on the first of the latest two data centers locally, and there will be a formal press release in a couple of weeks.
“We’re going to put out a statement in the press that you’ll see, but I’m going to give you a quick heads-up now, that we are finally and formally announcing the data center that is being developed there at the new site. And there is the second one under construction as well, which I’m sure you’ve seen media reports about, too. That campus is a two data center campus, so it will be those two buildings, then we will be good to go.”
Later she added Google hopes to finish the second data center by 2026.
