Wasco County Sheriff Magill Honors Jay Waterbury For His Service

The following was a post from the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office:

50 Years! Not many people in the profession of law enforcement can actually say they have served for 50 years. This is the case with Jay Waterbury.

Jay began his career with the Vale Oregon Police Department on Oct. 1st 1974 and culminated exactly 50 years with the conclusion of his career with the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office, today October 1st, 2024.

After leaving Vale Oregon he joined the City of The Dalles Police Department in August 1975 until his retirement in July 2016. During his tenure with the police department he served in all capacities, including Chief of Police. He then joined the Sheriff’s Office as a Forest Patrol Deputy. in that same year, finishing his career with us.

As the Wasco County Sheriff, I’m proud to have known Chief Waterbury for my entire career. He has often provided me with advice that has caused me to grow, not only as a person, but a professional in law enforcement. Most importantly, I can call him a friend and his influence upon me will be never ending.

“In recognition for 50 years of selfless and unwavering law enforcement services in Oregon. Your tireless dedication to protecting and serving our community has not gone unnoticed. We are grateful for your bravery, sacrifice and commitment to keeping us safe”.

In closing, Thanks Jay for your service to the State of Oregon, The City of The Dalles and Wasco County.
