On September 21st, 2024 HRPD Officers were dispatched to milepost 63, I-84 WB in regard to a vehicle which had travelled approximately 532ft off the interstate and crashed down a ravine. Once Officers arrived they located a vehicle on its top approximately 150ft at the bottom of the ravine.
Collaborative efforts which lasted for approximately 1hr between HRPD, HRFD paramedics, HR area Fire personnel, OSP and Crag Rats allowed for a successful rescue of the entrapped individual. Also assisting in the effort was the US Forest Service who were able to clear out a path to make it easier to get the individual out safely.
As the investigation progressed it was determined the driver was believed to be impaired. The driver was criminally cited while at the Hood River Providence ER for DUII-Alcohol and Reckless Driving.
This is a sobering reminder of the perils of impaired driving.
