Fire shuts down Hwy 206 West of Wasco Thursday

The Sherman County Sheriff’s office reports that Thursday evening, around 7:23 p.m., a fire was reported at the Nish gravel pit. High winds caused it to spread rapidly, but emergency responders and nearby farmers brought it under control before it crossed Hwy 206. Smoldering continues, but within contained areas.

The cause of the fire appears to be a spark from individuals shooting at the gravel pit. Those individuals tried to put out the fire and called 911 for help. They met with law-enforcement and have cooperated fully. Once the investigation is complete it will go to the District Attorney for review .
