A full line-up of debates in Washington’s statewide elections

Washington voters will get a chance this week to hear from candidates running for several statewide offices, including governor, attorney general, public schools chief, and lands commissioner.

In the governor’s race, the Association of Washington Business and Greater Spokane Inc. will host the second debate of the election cycle between Democrat Bob Ferguson and Republican Dave Reichert at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Spokane.

NonStop Local KHQ-TV will serve as the broadcast partner, airing the debate on TV and streaming it at nonstoplocal.com. The debate will also air on KOMO-TV and KUNS-TV in western Washington, and on NonStop Local KNDU/KNDO in the Tri-Cities and Yakima. The debate will be rebroadcast on TVW and C-SPAN.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Association of Washington Business will host debates between the candidates for three other statewide offices: 

Superintendent of public instruction; Candidates: David Olson, Chris Reykdal; 11 a.m.Attorney general; Candidates: Nick Brown, Pete Serrano; 12:30 p.m. Lands commissioner; Candidates: Jaime Herrera Beutler, Dave Upthegrove; 2:30 p.m. 

The Standard’s editor, Bill Lucia, will moderate the lands commissioner debate. These debates will take place as part of AWB’s 2024 policy summit in Spokane and will be streamed on TVW.

On Thursday, the Washington State Debate Coalition will host a debate in the attorney general’s race at 8 p.m. at Seattle Central College. 

FOX 13 will televise and livestream this debate and it will be streamed by other media partners. The Standard’s Laurel Demkovich will join FOX 13’s Hana Kim, Cascade PBS’ Shauna Sowersby and KUOW’s Libby Denkmann moderating.

Next Thursday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m., the Debate Coalition will host a debate in the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction race at the Edmonds Center for the Arts.

Seattle CityClub and GSBA – Washington State’s LGBTQ+ and allied chamber of commerce are co-hosts of the Washington State Debate Coalition events. The coalition also has a Seattle City Council debate scheduled for this Wednesday, Sept. 18.
