A Chinese national studying in Osaka, Japan, got a less-than-enthusiastic welcome when she was charged with driving a suitcase without a license.
The woman was caught riding the suitcase, which had wheels and an electric motor capable of reaching speeds of up to 8 miles per hour, on a city sidewalk, according to Sora News 24.
The charge is the first of its kind, and the woman is fighting it on the grounds she didn’t think of it as a vehicle and therefore didn’t need a license.
It’s a long shot, but she might have a case since Japanese driving laws regarding scooters, EV bikes and the like are pretty vague.
In any case, it’s a lot of baggage for a stranger in town to have to deal with.
