Hold the phone … on second thought, scratch that!

An inmate in serving a life sentence for murder in an Indian prison couldn’t stomach doing time without his cellphone, but soon discovered life with his precious phone even harder to digest.

The inmate, identified as 38-year-old Parashuram, had to quickly hide the phone during a raid by police officers, according to the Indian Express, so he got rid of it the only way he knew how — by swallowing it.

Parashuram carried the phone in his stomach for nearly a month, presumably thinking it would eventually come out the other end. When the pain became too much to bear, he told prison doctors he was unwell, without revealing the cause.

A sonogram revealed a foreign object in his stomach, prompting doctors to cut his stomach open — where they discovered the cellphone.

Police tell the outlet that periodic searches for banned objects and substances are common, though most inmates hide them in places guards don’t usually check.

Hopefully next time Parashuram will use his head, instead of his stomach.
