Porch pirates, those brazen thieves who make off with packages left on people’s porches by delivery services like Amazon and FedEx, may have finally met their match, thanks to a new home security camera.
Per the company’s website, PaintCam is a state-of-the-art security system that would would use facial recognition and an app-based program that would mark thieves for easy identifications by authorities by firing paintballs at them — or tear gas, if you’re really out for vengeance.
The technology still has a few kinks to be ironed out though. For instance, it may not be able to tell the difference between a strange raccoon or your family pet. It may also provide an opportunity for abuse at the hands of “trigger-happy or overly paranoid people,” according to Global News.
There are also potential legal issues, depending on where you live.
But imagine how satisfying it would be to catch just one porch pirate.
