COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE, OR., March 27,2024— The US Forest Service (USFS) is pleased to announce the commencement of construction for The Coyote Wall Trail, a 2.6-mile mountain bike-optimized single track trail in the Coyote Wall (or “Syncline”) area of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. Scheduled for completion this summer, the trail aims to provide recreationists with an enjoyable and sustainable experience while showcasing the scenic beauty and unique ecology of the area.
The Coyote Wall Trail, identified in the 2010 “Coyote Wall, Burdoin Mountain, and Catherine Creek Area Recreation Plan,” represents a significant step towards modernizing the area’s trail infrastructure in alignment with Forest Service standards by replacing environmentally damaging user-trails in the area with a professionally designed and constructed alternative.
The US Forest Service collaborated closely with local community partners, specifically the Columbia Area Mountain Bike Advocates (CAMBA), C2 Recreation Consulting, and the Washington Trail Association. Their expertise and input guided the design and layout phases of the trail development process. Ptarmigan Trails, a Northwest based trail consulting and construction company, has been awarded the contract to build the trail.
Funding for The Coyote Wall Trail project was made possible through the Great American Outdoor Act, reflecting the federal government’s commitment to enhancing outdoor recreation opportunities and preserving natural landscapes for future generations.
