Donald “Doc” Bennett, who spent over 30 years in prison for a string of 1980s bank robberies, proved he’s still going strong at the age of 83. He’s landed back in prison after knocking off at least seven more bank robberies since his release, ABC News has learned.
Bennett, dubbed the “leaping bandit” back in his heyday, was released from prison in 2020 after serving 31 years of a 50-year sentence after being convicted in 1989 of multiple bank robberies committed in the Chicago area, according to the FBI.
However, it seems Bennett may have lost a step since his leaping days.
Investigators managed to identify him and his accomplice, 55-year-old Edward Binert, as suspects because they used their real names and identification to rent getaway cars used in the robberies, including a Valentine’s Day heist at a Chase bank in Hickory Hill, according to the complaint.
