At a time when crime seems out of control, a bill described as a victim-centered, trauma-informed response to sexual assault in the legal system passed in the state Senate.
The measure streamlines eligibility for crime victim benefits, covers some of victims’ costs for forensic examinations, and expands protections to more victims, among other things.
Senator Mike Padden testified in support of the legislation.
The Spokane Republican says, unfortunately, crime victim bills like this are more necessary than ever.
Proponents say the measure represents a transformation of the legal response to sexual assault in our state.
The bill was approved by the Senate unanimously and sent to the House for consideration.
