Bill to teach Pledge of Allegiance faces uncertain future in Democrat-controlled state Senate

A highly acclaimed bill from middle school students that would require schools to teach the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance is teetering on the brink of death in the state Senate.

Senator Jim McCune says he’s hearing that some Senate Democrats may stop his measure from reaching the Senate floor for a vote as a key deadline to keep bills alive is set to pass.

The idea for the Graham Republican’s legislation came from Eatonville Middle School students who say if they’re required to say the pledge, then schools should be required to teach it.
