Stabbing Suspect Identified 

Gresham, Ore.— The stabbing suspect, who was shot by Gresham Police officers last week, has been identified as 29-year-old Carlos Corona.   

Gresham Police were dispatched to a disturbance at the Golden Knight Motel on January 9, shortly after 8 p.m., when a 911 caller reported hearing a person screaming for help.  Another caller said someone was banging on their room door.  Responding officers saw Corona, who was armed with a knife, force his way into an occupied motel room.  Corona attacked the occupant of the room, stabbing them multiple times. Two officers fired shots at Corona. 

Officers provided medical assistance to the victim, who had suffered multiple stab wounds.  They were transported to a local hospital and have since been released.  Officers also provided medical assistance to Corona, but he died at the scene. 

 “We are still investigating Mr. Corona’s motive for this violent attack. We would like to hear from anyone who recognizes Mr. Corona and had contact with him before this incident,” said Detective Lindsay Friderich.  “When our investigation is complete it will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office for review.”  The East Multnomah County Major Crimes Team is leading the investigation into this incident. The officers involved in the shooting are Officer Taylor Letsis and Officer Gabriel Hoffman.  Officer Letsis has been a police officer with the Gresham Police Department for 17 years.  Officer Hoffman has been a police officer with the Gresham Police Department for less than one year, having previously been a police officer in The Dalles for the two years.  They have both been on critical incident leave since the shooting, in accordance with department policy.
