WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement upon yesterday’s passage of the Fiscal Year 2024 Legislative Branch Appropriations Bill
“Yesterday, the House continued its work in funding the government by passing the bill that keeps Congress working for the people. From increasing the budget of Capitol Police to reigning in millions of taxpayer dollars on overfunded programs, this bill is a strong statement on the kind of spending we want to see in the House,” said Rep. Newhouse.
Newhouse continues, “I thank Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Mark Amodei for his leadership on this bill, and I am proud to support his efforts to ensure the House remains open and that we have the resources to do the job we were sent here to do.”
The Legislative Branch bill includes $5.302 billion in discretionary appropriations to fund the offices of the House of Representatives and joint legislative branch items, a decrease of $262.9 million (or 4.7%) from the FY23 enacted level. Including Senate items, the total amount provided is $6.735 billion, a 2.4% reduction from the FY23 enacted level. The bill strikes a delicate balance, maintaining essential, yet fiscally responsible, oversight responsibilities.
