In a daring act of madness, a man on a mission to make his near-annual “Darth Valley” run as hard as possible, turns into Darth Vader complete with costume for a run in California’s infamous Death Valley.
This year, Jon Rice made his mark by sprinting a mile at warp speed during the peak of the hottest day. In this case, it was an unofficial high of 128 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s not lost on Jon the risks that come with such a feat.
“I don’t agree with anybody else doing this,” he told The Washington Post. “I don’t even really agree with me doing this, particularly.”
Rice’s fastest time was last year, when he said he recorded a 6-minute 18-second mile. This year, he said, he ran it in about 10 minutes after recovering from an injury.
