Attorney General Bob Ferguson Statement on PDC Changing its Published Guidance on Surplus Transfers

SEATTLE – Today, the Washington Public Disclosure Commission (PDC) changed its previously published guidance regarding transfers of surplus campaign funds. Surplus funds can be transferred to a subsequent committee for another office with written approval by the donor. That remains unchanged with today’s decision. Ferguson provided the following statement:

“We have been carefully following the PDC’s clear and unequivocal guidance. We respect the PDC’s decision today to change that guidance, and look forward to following the new rules going forward. One thing that I will not change is my policy of relying on individuals and not large corporations to fund my campaign. I refuse contributions from large corporations, and I challenge other candidates in this race to make the same pledge. I’m proud of the thousands of Washingtonians from across the state who have already contributed to my exploratory campaign.”

Ferguson’s exploratory campaign has already raised more than $2 million. He has received the endorsement of more than 165 public officials, including 5 members of Congress, 50 state legislators, the President of the National Congress of American Indians, and the past three presidents of the Washington State Labor Council.
