PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland Community College faculty are worried that the school’s nursing program risks closing because of a leadership void. Oregon Public Broadcasting reports that the nursing program’s director hasn’t been replaced since resigning last month. The school has until May 4 to fill the position under state nursing regulations. Students are concerned about not being able to graduate. Dozens attended the college’s board meeting last week to testify and call for the hiring of a new program director. A potential closure would likely exacerbate Oregon’s shortage of nurses and nursing faculty. Nursing programs in Oregon have struggled to recruit teachers because of low pay.
