On 04/01/2023, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office received a request for assistance for a man who fell approximately 40 feet north of Carson, Washington. Daryl Hoyt, 73, was conducting trail maintenance for a private property owner near Bear Creek Road and was with a group of several individuals. Personnel from Skamania County Emergency Medical Services, Skamania County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, Silver Star Search and Rescue, and Skamania County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist. Due to the steep terrain, rope rescue teams were utilized. Once personnel members were able to reach Hoyt, it was discovered he succumbed to his injuries and was deceased. Skamania County E.M.S. and Search and Rescue personnel worked in conjunction to retrieve Hoyt from the steep location. The incident was investigated by the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office and Hoyt’s death was determined to be accidental.
