Porch pirates are out. Egg yeggs are in

With the soaring price of poultry, some people have turned to petty theft to get their egg fix.

WTXF reports an unknown man began pillaging egg stands in Springfield Township, Pennsylvania. Basically, people with chickens had put up stands by their homes, where neighbors could purchase their spare eggs for a decent price.

Unfortunately, the yegg ran up to these stands and emptied them of both their cash and produce.

Police think this man may have targeted other areas in town and have since released an image showing the suspect in action, as he appears to be rushing up to a little Igloo cooler propped up on a chair by someone’s driveway.

Police said in a statement, “While this may not be the crime of the century, our residents deserve the ability to place things out for folks to enjoy and keep the cycle of supporting small business and neighbors without the worry of petty thieves stealing from them.”

As for what’s causing the skyrocketing cost of a carton of eggs, economists have pointed to a combination of factors. Issues include the nationwide bird flu outbreak that caused the deaths of millions of egg-laying hens, as well as high feed costs, inflation and national supply chain challenges caused by the pandemic.
