Senator Murray on House Republicans Doubling Down on Anti-Abortion Attacks: “Disgraceful—and Won’t Fly in the Democratic Senate”

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) issued the following statement on House Republicans doubling down on their extreme attacks on Americans’ reproductive rights with anti-abortion votes today and more expected soon as the new Republican majority signals its top priorities for the 118th Congress.

“Last fall, voters sent a clear message when abortion rights won in every single place they were on the ballot. Unfortunately, less than a week since they took the gavel, House Republicans are sending a cruel response of their own: they aren’t listening, they don’t care what voters said, and they are going to plow full steam ahead with the same disgraceful and downright dangerous attacks on women’s reproductive rights. With these votes, the new Republican majority in the House is already making clear they still don’t care one bit about women’s right to control their own bodies. And of course, we all know their end goal: a national ban on abortion.

“Not on my watch. We absolutely will not let these attacks on our rights fly here in the Democratic Senate. My Democratic colleagues and I are going to keep fighting back against Republicans’ backward and extreme attacks on Americans’ reproductive rights at every step of the way.”
