The Dalles City Council held its first meeting of the new year last night. Mayor Rich Mays and Councilors Tim McGlothlin and Scott Randall were sworn in for new terms, following their re-election in November. The meeting included the city’s annual audit report, covering the 2021-2022 fiscal year that ended last June. Auditor Tim Gillette of the firm Talbot, Korvola and Warwick gave the result:
“The good thing to report is that it is again an unmodified opinion, sometimes known as a clean opinion, so the auditor’s Good Housekeeping seal of approval. Our opinion the financial statements are fairly presented in all material respects.”
Council members approved the last contract for the Dog River pipeline. This will construct fish screening and a fish passage system for the pipeline’s intake at Dog River. Public works director Dave Anderson put it this way:
“Construction of these improvements will prevent the fish in Dog River from being drawn into the pipeline and will provide a safe way for fish in Dog River to move past the intake.”
The project will cost nearly two and a half million dollars, and the design has been approved by the Forest Service and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
