BEND, Ore. (AP) — A judge has sentenced a white man to 10 years in prison for the fatal shooting of Barry Washington Jr. outside an Oregon nightclub last year. OPB reports that 28-year-old Ian Cranston was sentenced Monday to 10 years in state prison and three years of parole on charges of manslaughter, assault and unlawful use of a deadly weapon. Prosecutors say a fight began between Cranston and Washington outside a bar in September 2021 in the community of Bend after Washington flirted with Cranston’s fiancee. Washington was Black, and his death sparked protests and drew comparisons to those of other Black men across the country.
