Evacuations lifted in Grass Valley due to Hemp Plant Fire

11/21 Update:

At 11:34 am, Evacuation update lifted, residents can return home.

From the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office Facebook Page 11/20 after 4 pm:

The Hemp Plant in Grass Valley is on fire. There is concern that the chemicals might explode. Grass Valley residents are being asked to evacuate. Anyone needing help please call 911.

Update around 7 pm:

Hemp Plant Fire Update: The building is still burning and fully engulfed. There have been small explosions. The reason for the evacuation was due to a large volume of combustible chemicals and the possibility of a large explosion. As of the time of this posting Hwy 97 is still shut down and the evacuation remains.

Injuries- The information we have indicated five employees suffered burns. Of those, one suffered significant burns.

Update around 9 pm:

We are being told the evacuation order will remain in effect through the night. Tomorrow morning the professionals will assess the situation in the daylight.
