A man has lost his super-expensive Rolex because he was a little too trusting.
Sora News reports a Japanese man was going to part ways with his 18-karat yellow gold Rolex Yacht-Master II watch, worth about $53,000, and met up with a potential buyer that he met through a second-hand shopping app.
The unidentified man was going to sell his watch for a bargain $47,000. He said the potential buyer walked up to his car after telling him to meet in a parking lot.
The buyer, who seemed to be in good spirits and was wearing gloves, asked the seller to buy some tea inside of a store — and the man obliged. He walked away, leaving the stranger alone with his luxury watch for two minutes.
We all know what happened next.
“I was too stupid and honest,” the unidentified victim told the outlet, noting he should have seen the other red flags.
“[Instead of getting into my car] he opened the door and crouched down behind it to look at the watch. That was suspicious,” he continued. “Now that I think about it, we were outside the whole time, which made it easier for him to escape.”
The man tried contacting the potential buyer, who claimed he didn’t have the watch and that he had left it in the man’s car. He then deleted his account.
While the man is kicking himself for being too trusting, he did capture the potential buyer on camera and was sure to park by security cameras — so he’s hopeful that’ll be enough for police to find the watch thief.
