Of all the things that can make you late to work, an escaped tortoise is probably the least believable, but that actually happened in England.
Metro.co.uk reports British rail lines came to a screeching halt after a giant tortoise’s bid for freedom brought him onto the train tracks. The animal forced trains to come to a stop because, well, it’s not the fastest animal on earth.
The creature held up commuters between Norwich and Stansted Airport for about an hour on Monday. Once the giant tortoise was captured, it was evaluated to make sure it was healthy. Authorities say the animal was injured, with photos showing marks on its shell, but it is expected to fully recover.
It has since been handed over to a specialist team for observation — and hopefully, it will stay far away from any railroad tracks. No word if the owner of the animal has been found.
