Well, this is a big yikes. Imagine sitting comfortably in the house you know you’ve paid for when police suddenly show up to try to evict you from the premises.
That happened to one lady in Pasco County, Florida, reports WFLA.
Jennifer Michele credits her Ring doorbell for telling her two deputies and a locksmith were drilling through her front door’s lock.
“I didn’t know if these people were trying to get into my house. I didn’t know if everything was OK,” she recalled. She spoke to the men through her doorbell camera. “They told me they were serving an eviction, which is news to me because I don’t rent. But they told me it was posted last week.”
Michele continued speaking to the men and eventually they realized they made a big mistake. “As soon as I said my name, they knew that they’d messed up,” she recounted. Turns out the eviction brigade were actually supposed to bother the person next door.
“As soon as I came here, they told me that I’m going to need a new lock and that the guy who was going to break my lock was going to fix it,” Michele said, but noted she is not thrilled with their apology.
Michele is also thankful that she was home at the time because she wonders what would have happened if she wasn’t there to intercept the eviction crew. “Would all my stuff be in the driveway?” she wondered. “I don’t know how it would’ve played out if I didn’t catch it.”
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the mix-up.
As for Michele, she got a consolation prize — she posted the Ring footage to her TikTok and it’s gone viral.
