Volcano near Iceland’s main airport erupts again after pause

REYKJAVIK, Iceland (AP) — Authorities in Iceland say a volcano in the southwest of the country is erupting just eight months after its last eruption officially ended. The Icelandic Meteorological Office urged people to stay away from the Fagradalsfjall volcano, which is located 32 kilometers (20 miles) southwest of the capital of Reykjavik and close to the international Keflavik Airport. A live video feed from the site shows magma spewing from a narrow fissure. An eruption in the same area last year was the first on the Reykjanes Peninsula in almost 800 years. it drew hundreds of thousands of tourists. The 2010 eruption of Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano grounded air travel across Europe for several days.
