Stocks fall, extending a deep slump into second half of 2022

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks fell in afternoon trading on Wall Street Friday, continuing a dismal streak as markets worry about high inflation and the possibility that higher interest rates could bring on a recession. The S&P 500 fell 0.3%. It is coming off of its worst quarter since the onset of the pandemic in early 2020, and its performance in the first half of 2022 was the worst since the first six months of 1970. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.3% and the Nasdaq fell 0.4%. Bond yields fell significantly. The yield on the 10-year Treasury fell to 2.88% from 2.97% late Thursday.
