Talk about a travel nightmare. A woman claims a restaurant in Mykonos, Greece, scammed her out of $600.
Greek publication Thema reports Brenda Moulton and her 19-year-old daughter, Kaylea, were vacationing on the island when they stopped at an oyster bar, claiming the staff lured them in on the promise of free sunbeds. Moulton said the staff then insisted they order food, so they decided on two mojitos and two crab legs.
Then the bill came — which was in excess of $640.
“[I told them], ‘Two mojitos and two crab legs cannot make 600 euros. I will not pay you,” Moulton said she told the staff, but the manager threatened to call police. The women said they became afraid and coughed up the cash.
They claim another woman approached them after the scary scene and said police were called the day before because something similar happened.
Apparently the Moulton duo — who said they sat on their sunbeds for two hours — weren’t the restaurant’s only victims, as the bar’s Tripadvisor page is flooded with similar reviews. Under one complaint, the restaurant allegedly replied, “There is not free country in the western world that would force us to explain to each customer why we charge the way we do.” The reply continued, “Would you ask Bugatti why they charge as much as they do? Would you ask all the luxury brands to justify their prices?”
The outlet spoke to a restaurant spokesperson, who denied they strong-arm their patrons into paying exorbitant prices. They also said their prices are because of “top quality raw material and our chef has been chosen among the best in order to complete our concept of an experience that surpasses the ordinary standards.”
The women have since made a complaint to Mykonos police.
