DA Mike Schmidt announces arraignment of suspect in fatal shooting under Burnside Bridge

PORTLAND, Oregon – Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt announced that Riz’o Eonte Lucas, 18, was arraigned for Murder in the Second Degree with a Firearm and Unlawful Use of a Weapon with a Firearm.

The charges stemmed from a fatal shooting that occurred just before noon on Friday, April 8, 2022. Portland Police Officers responded to a report that someone had been shot under the Burnside Bridge, near Northwest Naito Parkway and Northwest Couch Street.

Officers found the victim on the ground and provided medical attention. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his face just above his neck and was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Officers located and arrested Lucas near the area of the shooting. His firearm was recovered.

The case was presented to a Multnomah County grand jury. Upon the conclusion of the presentation of evidence, the grand jury returned an indictment against Lucas for Murder in the Second Degree with a Firearm and Unlawful Use of a Weapon with a Firearm. He is currently in custody without bail.

A charging document is only an accusation of a crime. Lucas is innocent unless and until proven guilty.
