Thousands lose power in PNW wind storm

SEATTLE (AP) — Nearly 50,000 customers lost power during a storm bringing high winds, rain and mountain snow to areas of the Pacific Northwest Monday. Puget Sound Energy reported more than 48,000 customers in western Washington. Seattle City Light reported nearly 1,500 customers without power as of about 8 p.m. Monday, which had improved from earlier reports of 7,000. Portland General Electric said more than 18,500 customers had lost power in southwest Washington, Portland, Oregon, and surrounding areas but that number was about 10,500 by 8 p.m. In eastern Washington and northern Idaho, Avista reported around 5,000 customers without power. A winter storm warning was in effect into Tuesday for the Washington Cascade Mountains above 2,500 feet.
