Stampede at Cancún airport blamed on clumsy tourist

The sound of “gunshots” that sent passengers at Cancún’s airport running for their lives on Monday, turned out to just be the sound of a tourist accidentally knocking over a photo exhibit.

The crash set off three loud cracks triggering hundreds of people to run off in a “stampede,” in which elderly travelers were knocked down and children separated from parents, according to CBS.

Crowds reportedly sought safety on the tarmac, and buses carried travelers to other parts of the airport.

Boarding passes and shoes were scattered on the floor throughout the terminal where the disturbance occurred.

Airport employees were gathering the documents and placing them on counters, according to CBS.
