Russia’s war on Ukraine is now in its third week with Russian troops pressing their offensive across the country. The besieged city of Mariupol came under intense shelling again, with Russian forces hitting an area around a mosque that was sheltering more than 80 people. Across Ukraine, urban areas are being pounded with artillery and airstrikes. Russian units fanned out to prepare for an assault on the capital, Kyiv, a major political and strategic prize for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia would need to carpet-bomb Kyiv and kill its residents to take the city. He encouraged his people to keep resisting.
