SEATTLE (AP) — An off-duty officer has died after being stabbed by a robbery suspect who showed up at his Washington state home, and then mistakenly shot by a sheriff’s deputy who responded to the scene. Authorities say 52-year-old Vancouver police officer Donald Sahota collapsed on his porch as he was shot Saturday. The shooting occurred as police tried to catch a man wanted for robbing a gas station. Authorities say the suspect ran off after authorities stopped his vehicle with spike strips. He then showed up at Sahota’s door saying he’d been in a crash. Sahota tried to detain the man, and they fought. Investigators say an arriving sheriff’s deputy opened fire with a rifle.
