What’s that smell? It’s 660 pounds of roadkill spilled onto the hot Australian highway!

If you live in Melbourne, Australia, chances are you had to plug your nose for a good long while because the stench of rotting carcasses was in the air.

Australian outlet VicTraffic reported on Twitter that one poor road was the victim of a terrible spill — a truck piled high with roadkill.  How much roadkill, you ask?  Try over 660 pounds.

Also, it’s currently summer in Australia — so that just added insult to injury.

The spill was so massive it shut down two lanes so crews could clean the road.  You can only imagine how many people were chanting how much they love their job that fateful day.

According to the time of the tweeted announcement, it took about seven hours to wash the dead animals — that the outlet dubbed “an offal spill” — off the road.

“Thanks to all motorists for your patience and to crews who worked on an ‘offally’ warm day to clean up the mess,” VicTraffic tweeted once the road was free of mincemeat.   It is unknown how the truck lost its supposedly secure load or where the roadkill eventually was taken.
