Hiker Rescued from Mt Defiance Trail

HOOD RIVER, ORE – At about 2pm on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office received a report that 74 year old Paul Holsted was on the Mt Defiance Trail in Hood River County, had fallen and and sustained a head injury.  The Sheriff’s Office conducted a rescue operation for Mr Holsted assited by members from the Hood River Crag Rats, Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue and Oregon Army National Gaurd Blackhawk Team.  Search team members reached Mr Holsted on the ground and then coordinated an air lift from the Oregon National Gaurd unit.  At about 7:30pm Mr Holsted was air lifted and transported to a Portland area hospital.  His current condition is unknown at this time.
