In June, City crews and contractors will complete several pavement preservation projects. Two scrub seal projects are first on the 2021 schedule.

Text Box: SCRUB SEAL – Is similar to chip seal treatment. Instead of spraying liquid asphalt, an emulsion is mechanically scrubbed into cracks to make a better seal. Then the chips are spread and compacted into the emulsion. CHIP SEAL - Is the application of a special protective wearing surface to an existing pavement. A thin layer of liquid asphalt is sprayed down in front of the chip spreader by a distributor. A dump truck full of chips (crushed rock) locks onto a chip spreader which is pulled backwards. The chips spread over the liquid asphalt are then compacted by rollers. Chip seal projects may require a total lane closure for a day. Equipment is slow moving and must cover the same area multiple times. Once the crew has left the work area, the rock is left on the road surface for seven to ten days so that vehicle traffic can continue to lock the rock into the liquid asphalt. Excess chips are then removed by sweepers to be reused on the next chip seal project.

June 10 & 11 – Northbound and southbound travel lanes of Bridge Street from West 10th Street to the West 14th Street – Full road closure will be in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Detours to Mt. Hood Street or Trevitt Street will be in place until the project is complete.

June 10 & 11 – Eastbound and westbound travel lanes of E Scenic Drive from Jefferson Street to the Sorosis Park Exit – Lane closures will be in effect from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Motorists will be flagged to a single lane next to the construction zone. Expect delays. 

Motorists and bicyclists are encouraged to use alternate routes. The sidewalks will remain open to pedestrian traffic during work hours.

This road work is expected to extend the service life of the pavement structure.

Please proceed with caution in these areas during construction times and observe all temporary traffic control devices. Thank you for your assistance during this work.
