The CDC revised its guidance to recommend establishing three feet of physical distance between people in school settings. Previous guidance encouraged establishing school policies and implementing interventions to promote a physical distance of at least 6 feet between people.
This revised guidance is exciting news for our school district and the students we serve. We have been in communication with our teacher union in anticipation of this release. However, before we can make changes to adapt to the three-foot guidance, there are a number of things that must take place, one of which is the Washington State Department of Health must adopt the new CDC guidance.
We know students are excited to be back in the classroom and families are eager to begin this transition. Please know that our school team is working as quickly as possible to carefully plan using the new guidance and ensure school environments are safe for students and staff.
Ultimately, schools must follow state and local guidance, even if the CDC does make guidance changes.
Goldendale School District is excited about moving to more in person time for our students. We will get more information out in the next few weeks.
