The North Wasco County School District 21 Board of Directors is pleased to announce the hiring of Dr. Carolyn Bernal as Superintendent beginning on July 1, 2021. Dr.
Bernal is highly qualified for the Superintendent position. She comes to us as an educator of 24 years with more than a decade of experience as an Assistant Superintendent for the Rio School District in Oxnard, California. She speaks Spanish fluently and has been the coordinator for a dual immersion program which has been successful for many years in her community. She has been a Human Resource Director, a chief union negotiator, and has had experience in helping to pass a school bond. She is a firm believer in “leveling the playing field” and increasing access and creating equitable opportunities for high-risk populations. She sees herself as a collaborator and her leadership style as that of serving others. Listening and empathizing with others are two skills at which she considers herself to be extremely adept.
The NWCSD Board feels that we are wisely investing in our future with this decision, and as such we have successfully negotiated and signed an approved contract with Dr. Carolyn Bernal.
