Nothing says I’m sorry like a new iPhone. That’s the takeaway from a new Yellow Octopus survey, which looked into how much money people have doled out to make up for cheating on their partner.
Turns out, the average sum is $1,000.
The company polled 1,009 people about their past indiscretions — or their partner’s indiscretions. To be specific, 13% of the respondent pool had cheated and been cheated on, and 58% say their partners strayed — with 14% having never cheated nor experienced their partner stepping out.
And the poll shows cheating wasn’t a dealbreaker for many of the people polled. In fact, commerce seemed to be the perfect way to pave the road to forgiveness.
Thirty-two percent said getting a new cellphone from their straying partner would be a fine way to make up; 29% said a lavish vacation would do the trick. Twenty-six percent said trading up for a new laptop would be sufficient, while 24% went the Kobe route and admitted jewelry would be the way back into their good graces.
The gift company even broke things down by indiscretion, based on its polling data. Sex with somebody else is obviously the biggest no-no, so it came with the biggest price tag: It would set a cheating partner back an average of $1,284 to make good.
Kissing a stranger meant shelling out $365.70. Flirting with a restaurant server would cost a cheater an average of $118.80, and DMing with somebody else would run you $375.80.
Just a guess, but Adam Levine might likely be doling out more for the latter.
