If you love visiting your local pub for a pint and you dream of earning a place in the Guinness Book of World Records — have we got news for you.
USA Today reports that a new record has been set for longest bar crawl. Gareth Murphy, 29,of Wales, drank his way through 56 pubs in the span of 24 hours — besting the previous record of 51.
Guinness verified his record, which he set in February, based on the mountain of evidence he submitted to prove he conquered 56 pubs within a day. He submitted video evidence, receipts and anything else that showed he visited all those bars and drank at least one beverage in those establishments within that 24-hour span.
“The hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life,” said Murphy. “The hardest part by far was the bloatedness of drinking so much. It didn’t help that I can’t make myself burp either.”
Murphy added, “I lost count of how many toilet breaks I took … At the beginning it was minimal, once every 10 pubs, say, but by the end, I think I was going once every two or three pubs … It was a long, tiring day.”
The new record holder said he broke the record in Cardiff, which is the capital of Wales, adding he selected the city because, “I knew [it was] the best place to do this.”
