US Army Recruiting Portland Battalion to participate in the Oregon International Airshow, May 20-22

HILLSBORO, Ore.—The U.S. Army Recruiting Command, Portland Battalion, is scheduled to showcase an all-female UH-60 Blackhawk crew during the Oregon International Airshow, scheduled to be held at the Hillsboro International Airport, May 20-22, 2022.

The event’s theme, “She Flies With Her Own Wings”, mirrors Oregon’s motto, and highlights the contributions of women to aviation. The U.S. Army UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter featured at the event is from the 2-158th Assault Helicopter Battalion, 16th Combat Aviation Brigade, at Joint-Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. The aircraft and its all-female crew will be featured at the US Army Recruiting booth on Friday, May 20.

The display serves as an important reminder to the people of the Pacific Northwest that the US Army is part of the local community, and serves as the sole active duty Army aviation brigade on the West Coast. The goal of the female crew is to inspire girls and young women in the area to pursue paths that lead them into aviation. Women can and do serve in every single career field in the Army, including aviation, providing valuable support not just to the Army but to the broader community in the Northwest.

Recruiting staff from the Portland Recruiting Battalion will also be on hand to highlight career opportunities throughout the Army and Army Reserve. The event is the largest show of its kind in the region, according to the event organizer.

Recently, the U.S. Army raised its enlistment bonus to $50,000 for qualified individuals who sign for a six-year active duty assignment. For select occupations which are in immediate need of filling, or which are difficult to fill due to the specific qualifications required, the Army is offering career-based incentives that range from $1,000 up to $40,000.

Aside from the career-based bonuses, there are “quick ship” bonuses for those who are prepared to head to Basic Combat Training within 90 days. These incentives range from $2,000 to $9,000. As part of the Army Civilian Acquired Skills Program, foreign language skills can be worth up to $40,000 for certain career paths.
