City of The Dalles Police Department Policy Manual is online

The City of The Dalles Police Department is pleased to announce that the Department Policy Manual is now online and available for the public to review. To read the manual or specific policies, simply navigate online to the City of The Dalles web page, select Departments, Police, and the policy manual link is prominently displayed on the page. The manual is searchable as well as hyperlinked from the table of contents.

Why might a person be interested in reading a policy manual? Any number of reasons. If you are interested in why or how we do our jobs, or why an officer took a particular approach, the policy manual is a great place to begin to understand the mission of The Dalles Police Department. As a community policing agency we welcome feedback from our citizens and encourage the review of our operations to ensure that our mission aligns with the expectations of our citizens.

Chief Tom Worthy said, “The public posting of our policy manual is a meaningful step in our department’s pursuit of transparency and collaboration with our community and stakeholders. As we pursue accreditation of our department, policies are frequently being modified and revised to align with best practices as established by the Oregon Association of Chiefs of Police as well as the International Association of Chiefs of Police. I invite you to examine our policies and watch for changes as we complete this important process.”
