Spring break is here and so are the crabs — er, the marine animal.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission posted on their Facebook images of horseshoe crabs taking over the sandy beaches in droves. “This week, horseshoe crabs have scheduled their yearly EPIC spring break! Every year horseshoe crabs gather on our beaches to complete their ancient mating ritual,” the organization explained.
“[It’s] the best time to get lucky spotting them,” the FWC teased before turning the focus on the lighthearted post to the science aspect of the announcement. “Your sightings can help our scientists gather a lot of valuable information that may help the long-term success of the species.”
So, if you’d rather see a bunch of ancient crabs getting down and dirty on the sandy beaches of Florida — and NOT college students — you know what to do.
