By now, you know what it means when you see a social media post using black, green and yellow tile emojis — it’s someone posting their Wordle score.
For the uninitiated, Wordle is a word-solving game where people have six tries to correctly guess a five-letter word. This game has taken the world by storm, but one elderly woman’s obsession with it likely saved her life.
ABC affiliate WLS reports that when the daughter of an 80-year-old Illinois woman noticed that her mom didn’t post her daily score, she called police to do a wellness check. Good thing she called, because authorities stumbled across a hostage situation.
Police noticed a broken window on the first floor — as well as blood — and entered the home to find a naked man holding the 80-year-old hostage. Thankfully, the woman was not hurt, and the suspect, who was armed with several knives, was taken into custody.
Police brought the man to the hospital because they believe he was suffering from a mental health crisis. That didn’t stop them from slapping the intruder with multiple felonies — including aggravated kidnapping.
Amazing how this all happened because someone wanted to know if their mom guessed the day’s Wordle puzzle. What a time we live in.
