SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — Shares in major U.S. airlines are soaring after President Donald Trump tweeted his support for a $25 billion relief package for the struggling industry and prodded Congress to take action. Airline stocks rose as much as 6% in early trading. The airline industry has been one of the hardest-hit sectors of the economy since the virus pandemic took hold this spring, with the largest four U.S. carriers losing more than $10 billion between them. Trump’s tweets came just hours after he had all but squashed any possibility of a relief package before the Nov. 3 election.
