Rep. Kim Schrier tries to retain seat against GOP newcomer

SEATTLE (AP) — Rep. Kim Schrier is trying to hold onto her seat in Washington’s 8th Congressional District after becoming the first Democrat to represent the district since it was founded in the early 1980s. Schrier faces Republican newcomer Jesse Jensen, an Army veteran from Bonney Lake who did four combat tours in Afghanistan. Jensen says Schrier is too liberal for the district, which includes Seattle suburbs and Central Washington farmland alike, but Schrier says she’s a moderate and points to a record of working with Republicans on agriculture and other issues.
