High Speed Vehicle Pursuit in Klickitat County

On July 21, 2020 at approximately 2:30 p.m. Klickitat County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Murdock area to assist the Washington State Patrol with a high speed vehicle pursuit. Washington State Patrol Sergeant Hovinghoff advises he was in pursuit of a motorcycle at speeds well in excess of 100 miles per hour. The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns as the motorcycle entered Murdock from the east on SR-14.

The motorcycle rider continued driving recklessly on county roads within Murdock. The rider lost control after crossing SR-14, laid down the motorcycle and fled the scene on foot towards the Columbia River.
Klickitat County Sheriff’s Sergeant Joe Riggers, Deputy Dwayne Matulovich, and Reserve Deputy Danielle Ellickson arrived in the area and began searching for the rider. A pilot from the Klickitat County SO air wing responded to the scene to assist in the search from the air.

As additional law enforcement were arriving the rider was spotted running from a vineyard. After a foot pursuit Sgt. Riggers was able to apprehend the motorcycle rider. The rider was identified as Dennis N. Brenden (42 years old) of Wishram, WA.

Brenden was booked into the Klickitat County Jail for Attempting to Elude a Pursuing Police Vehicle. The motorcycle was determined to have been reported stolen from Gilliam County Oregon in June of 2020. Additional charges will be submitted to the Klickitat County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
