The battle is not over: Rising infections seen worldwide

BERLIN (AP) — Nations around the world and U.S. states struggled mightily Tuesday to contain a surge of coronavirus infections as lockdowns eased. Germany slapped new restrictions on a region where hundreds were infected at a slaughterhouse and a top U.S. expert headed to Capitol Hill at a fraught moment in the U.S. battle against the virus. Britain is looking to allow people back into pubs, cinemas and hair salons to spur its economy. The coronavirus pandemic remains in its ascendancy in many large countries that have been lifting lockdowns, including the U.S. India’s infections are rising by about 15,000 each day, while new cases have also been rising steeply in Mexico, Colombia and Indonesia.
